Meet Annie, Our Lead Trainer
As long as she can remember, Annie has always had animals present in her life. From dogs and cats to cows and chickens, she grew a love and continuing passion to learn as much about them. Her animal career started out by walking and looking after others’ dogs. She then began working at her local pet store and furthered her learning by working for a couple of veterinary offices. Initially intent on becoming a veterinarian, she attended Virginia Tech and earned her degree in Animal and Poultry Sciences.
There, she had many experiences handling and caring for farm animals including learning how to halter break a heifer and flipping sheep. Annie eventually decided becoming a veterinarian wasn’t for her, but she still longed to work with animals. That’s when she discovered and became fascinated by animal behavior and training. Growing up, Annie also developed a love for helping others. In high school she joined her school’s Key Club and at college she joined a service sorority, Chi Delta Alpha, focused on academics and giving back to the community. Wanting to continue to pursue both passions, she then became interested in learning about service dog training.
After graduating, Annie returned home with a goal in mind but still unsure how to pursue it. That’s when her mother suggested she contact the dog trainer she’d been working with to train their family dog, Josie. In 2021, Annie became an apprentice trainer and continues to love to learn and help people train their dogs. In her free time, Annie enjoys reading, hiking, and hanging out with her cat, Salmon.
