Meet Sean, Our Apprentice Trainer

Sean has always had a love of all animals, growing up with not only well trained German Shepherds, but also many cats, snakes, and hamsters. Through his childhood, he had considered becoming a vet but wasn’t sure he wanted to do the end of life process with animals. Unsure of which path to follow, Sean earned his degree in psychology, learning to employ operant and classical conditioning techniques and training rats to run a maze. After college, he found himself in the Prince George’s County Fire department, where he served just shy of 20 years. Looking back on the end of life issues as a vet didn’t look so terrible now.

With retirement approaching, Sean continually revisited the idea of pursuing dog training. Whenever visiting friends, he was drawn to the dogs of the house, and they to him. Even in the greetings and play, he was training with them, sometimes even giving more attention to the dog. Friends would ask how he was so successful with their stubborn pets? So, a plan started to come into focus, and he joined Paws and Possibilities immediately upon retiring from the fire department. When not spending time monitoring puppy brawls, he enjoys spending time with his family, including his German Shepherd, Karma, and shepherd mix rescue, Luna.
